4th game in a row that our team has managed to get Arica Harbour through the map elimination process. Arica Harbour has been a mixed bag for us. We have now played 4 games there: with 2 wins and 2 losses. (W, L, L, W)

Only given three days within to complete the match, organisation got underway. In the two day period leading up to the match there was quite a bit of smack talk. Grrr squad are quite well known, and loved for their animated banter. If you’ve ever read any of their match write-ups you would know exactly what I’m talking about.

On to the match. After their last performance on Arica Harbour, which was against =DAC= could have been described as hapless or bumbling, there was an air of trepidation in the AdHoc team. We had previously practised against grrr and had beaten them convincingly enough for that early stage together as a team. There was hope. We could beat them, if we only stuck to our task and didn’t chase kills. One, if not the biggest, challenge of having a mix team is to get everybody working out of the same playbook.

After a quick rundown of the plans, we got the game going. It was all out action from the start. The battle for the middle flag, B, was key. We did struggle a bit in the first round, capturing flags and then allowing grrr to bully us off them again. It went like that much for the first half. It was give and take right to the end. The 61-0 score probably doesn’t indicate how tough a fight the first round was.

Everything that we learnt from the first half was fully utilised in the secound round. We weren’t going to be bullied off flags. For much of the second round we held the majority of the flags, forcing the grrr team to using the flanks of the map. While they were effectively doing that, it did mean that they were applying less pressure to the flags. Which left us in the driving seat. It was a fight to the end of course, grrr aren’t a team to give up. The AdHoc team took the round convincingly with a score of 182-0

At the end of the game we tried to get some pictures of the group, which was interupted by a mortar strike and contuing machete madness ensued. Thanks for the game guys.

Things not going the way of the +AdHoc+ team this week. Having a midweek practise session cancelled at the last moment by the opposition team was one of the worst things that could happen. Leaving us without our much needed time together to work on teamwork and squadplay. This meant that it was a relatively quiet week. Not much happened at all.

Come Sunday evening and game time, the race starts. 6 people are in the mumble channel. Eventually able to find to available reserves. Right… Great… we have the required 8. With little time to work with the squads are worked out and the kits assigned. “you go here”, “you go there”, all the tasks are assigned.

Lets just say that things didn’t go according to plan. People running around where they shouldn’t be, squads splitting up. It was total chaos. The =DAC= guys were clearly working to a plan. They all knew exactly what had to be done.

Totally outgunned and outplayed.

We now look forward to our next game. Since this stage of the tournament is double elimination we have a chance to carry on fighting.

Game was played on Arica harbour, the same lineup was used as the match against [Epic-SA] and it was played on the same map too. This match however was totally different in terms of a contest between the two sides. The map choice probably played into the hands of sG, although playing a well organised team that has played together for a long time is always difficult. And what makes it even more difficult is the fact that we, +AdHoc+, are only starting now to form a team. The mish-mash of influences was this time caught short.

The round scores, I guess, give you a proper indication of how things went. A plucky first round performance gave some hope to the +AdHoc+ team, which was quickly quashed in the second round by a well drilled sG team. Round 1: 220 – 0

Round 2: 301 – 0

We came out all guns blazing at the start of the game, and on several occassions held the majority of the flags in the first half. It was always a case of being slightly outgunned though. We would get into good positions and would not be able to defend properly or would be attacking a point only to have our assault quashed.

The second round was pretty much one sided. Our first round performance convinced them to step things up a notch and they really delivered. Our frustration and somewhat deflated spirits were not going to help us here. Good effort by the +AdHoc+ guys! We’ll get them next time…

Although on the bright side, its a good time to get this slap in the face. Get us re-focused and ready for the elimination phase of the competition. Follow our progress here

Game was played on Arica harbour, the same map that we will be playing on sunday against Synergy.

Team lineup was as follows:

Unfortunately one of the opposition was having a problem with his computer blue screening repeatedly. After waiting for about 20 minutes, hopeful that he would be able to resolve the problem, we were told that they would have to play without him.

Due to the fact that we are a new group there was a deal of time spent before the game trying to organise the squads and also the strategy that would be implemented in the game. The squad layout seems more or less stable as we become more familiar with the roles that we need to fulfill within the squad, and also within the team. As we grow as a team we improve our performances.

There were some slight problems experienced during the game, but by the end of the 2 rounds I think we know what is expected of us. We look ahead to our next game. Its gonna be a tough one.

Just a quick update. We played our first game last night. The map we played was Laguna Presa.

The team lineup was as follows:

Vitblitz
DJ1NN
MaverickZA
vip3rx
Viper24034

First round score was 139-0, second round was 92-0. We did a lot of chasing around and a lot of switching between flags, which didn’t help our structure at all.

Given the preparation that we have had this isn’t a bad result at all. Well played guys. Good result.

We hope that the result will be improved upon for our game on Thursday(27-01-2011) vs [Epic-SA]. To give us more of a foundation for our game on Sunday(30-01-2011) vs Synergy. Thanks to all involved.

Bc2 Do Gaming League Week 4 and 5 Round up

BC2 DO GAMING LEAGUE Week 5+6 Roundup 1st Div

Week 4:

The 4th week of the league sees the infamous snowy mountain village of White Pass come into play. A very tricky linear setup with only 3 points which run between deployments. A frantic first rush at the start to get at least 2 flags, usually sees some epic confrontations either in or outside of the closely grouped buildings, which usually end up as piles of rubble.

The BBH Seniors went up against the MBB guys and secured the win with a 2-0 margin. The Selous Scouts went up against the extremists, NFX. Some intense fighting from both sides in both rounds, which ended up in NFX’s favour by close margins respectively. SSG then went head to head with ATF, unfortunately ATF could only field 7 players. SSG took the game 2-0 but ATF put up a pretty strong fight to only lose by a small difference.

Finishing it off GRRR went up against DAC where each team took one round resulting in a draw. So to summarise, BBH, NFX, SSG all managed wins with GRRR and DAC having a draw.

Vovo from SSG also had something to add: “The first round was a pretty tight affair. With no team willing to budge. Our focus remained unchanged for the duration of the match, keep two flags and work from there. ATF found it very difficult to break us down on flags. Which resulted in the second round being a more one-sided affair.

It was a tough game as I expected. The ATF guys really brought it to us with everything they had. I respect that a great deal. Well played guys!

Week 5:

So after some intense action on White Pass which saw some interesting results, teams are now going up against each other on Panama Canal. A Map synonymous for pretty intense armour orientated battles between A and B flags with infantry concentrating over the Warehouse at C and between D flags. The map layout can often cause squads to break up and lose majority control, resulting in them getting pushed back to the deployment, but flanking manoeuvres are topic of the day here with many routes around the areas of heavy contest, keeping everyone on their toes.

DAC faced off against MBB and took the 2-0 win convincingly. SSG had a match up against GRRR which was marred in latency problems from the start with random disconnects from both sides during the game. SSG however managed to keep ahead and took the game with a 2-0 margin. ATF and NFX matched up to produce a 2-0 win in ATF’s favour. Finally BBH and SLS fought it out and BBH took the win 2-0.

Jansen from DAC had the following to add after their game: “We started off with MyBB only having 7 players but the 2nd round they were a full team. We started off by capping the flags closest to us and setting up perimeter defenses at the 2 flags closest to their flag. After watching what their plan was we started pushing towards the final flag to be able to push them to their base.
Sometimes they got through to one of the other flags but the team quickly reacted and got the flag back.
We worked hard on our strat and it payed off! Thanks to all my players for their commitment and team work and we also wish MyBB all the best for their future games
.”

The current standings are listed in the image below:

Good luck to all teams in the final week 6 and any pick n play games which still need to happen.

The team was confident after a practise on Tuesday night. We haven’t had much exposure to this map in clan match scenarios, but its pretty straight forward. Two flags on either US or Russian side facing the opposing two flags. With a bit of snow and shrubbery around.

We had to wait a bit to get the game started. But once it was started, we went at them full pace. Quickly got onto our flags, capped them and moved forward. By the time they had their two flags captured we were almost on them. They didn’t have much of an answer to it. We fought over the remaining two flags and cleaned up quickly enough. There were some firefights.

On occassion somebody snuck by and made us turn to pursue them and clean up. All in all it was a clinical performance. Out of 250 tickets, the round scores were in the region of 190-0 and 220-0.

Comical quote of the game: TheVovo “I don’t see anyone”. TheVovo gets combat knifed almost immediately

With a tough midweek practise behind the back, where we missed several of our core players. I was a bit concerned about how things were shaping up for Sunday nights game. With our warmup prac we just focussed on having an infantry scuffle over probably the most important flags, C. Up and down. Round the back. Think after that we were pretty confident that if anything happened we would be able to attack/defend C. We unfortunately didn’t have time to have armour battles over B. Another knock also came. LazerGunz was unable to play, then Rocket-Boy also asked to be substituted due to the problems he had been experiencing on the line he was playing on. While the team lineup did change unexpectedly. The armour squad was happy to welcome in the experience of Lazersaurus and N4RCOlepsy.

Panama Canal can be a tricky map. The Canal divides the playing area into two sides, C and D, A and B. Which can be used to your advantage in defending. If however you are working either side of the canal, traversing the areas inbetween can be problematic. Places where armour have battled can also be reduced to rubble in a short while, leaving you exposed and without cover. A and D are important as they are the flags closest to their respective teams deployment. Once you have that flag you are basically on their doorstep. B is a traditional armour battleground. With little cover for the vehicles, and the area around the flag being a deathtrap for vehicles leaving them fully exposed. C lends itself largely to infantry warfare. It has 3 levels, and lots of places around it which can be used to take refuge while you regroup.

A little before the game the alarms bells started ringing. People complaining about latency and being unhappy to play. Latencies affecting half the opposition team. Ranging from 200 – 300. We had a similar situation in our team. Problem seemingly stemming from MWeb uncapped accounts, and in our case a dodgy exchange.

Things settled down quick enough and we launched into action. First round was routine enough. There were slight deviations from the original plan. Just before the game had started I decided to change my loadout for the occassion. I chose to go with the Improved Warheads Package. I had intended to change back to my usual Alternate Weapon Package, but never did. It seemed to be working as the enemy armour was going down.

We managed to capture 3 of the 4 flags. Which allowed us to pin them back a bit. They did manage to sneak past us on occasion to cause us to fall back a bit to cover. It was a pretty good display. The oppositions use of AT mines was quite the annoyance. If you didn’t pay attention you were bound to be caught by them. It also served to slow us down in certain situations, which they benefitted from.

The second round started in a similar vain. We went out and managed to get hold of 3 flags. The problem was that we had managed to stretch ourselves too much. In a matter of minutes we went from having 3 flags to 1. Even managed to steal their armour a few times. Despite that they managed to fight back and give us a hard time. It was a really tough fight.

N4RCOlepsy says: “Was a sweet game. Last round was lekker tense.”
Lazersaurus had a similar comment: “First round was textbook, second round got a bit hairy at the end.”

This leads us into the last week of the competition, with two games left to play. Both are new maps, Nelson Bay and Port Valdez. Its going to be interesting.

Preparation for this game was less than ideal. The practise that was arranged for the Thursday night fell through due to the other team forgetting about it. We then organised a quick warmup time on Sunday evening. Just to give us some exposure to the map. Focussing on the middle point.

White Pass is a linear map. It has three capture points in a straight line. A, B, and C. The area around the middle of the map, combined with the buildings and shrubberies make it possible to perform flanking maneouvers undetected. if you dont keep vigilant they can sneak by.

Alcohol – Tobacco – Firearms (ATF) were largely unknown to us. All that I knew was that these guys could frag. Right at the start of the game they informed us that they only had 7 guys available.

As expected much of the game was contested around the middle portion of the map. At times ATF did send one guy around the side to try capture another flag, and draw some of our troops away. This worked very well for them. The remaining six then faught as a unit. A few times they tried to make use of a sniper with Mortars. It didn’t work out for him or them.

The first round was a pretty tight affair.

Rocket-Boy had the following to say about the game: “ATF was a seriously strong team, they played very well together as a team and at full strength would be a force to be reconed with”

With better preparation we will be rewarded with better results.

No team pic this time, sorry guys :(

BC2 League 1st Div Week 3 Tally

So another week of mayhem has come and gone, with 6 teams having played their games this week and a further 2 who have moved their week 3 game into week 4 due a technical issue on the clan servers on Sunday night. No teams were able to join a server and thus having to rush to book servers for the next days ahead to get this game in. All is not lost though, a mere speed wobble on the Bc2 racetrack.

This week the map Laguna Alta was in play. A 3 point map which sees the Russians starting off with a slight advantage being the closest to the A and B flags, with the US having C as their closest flag. This setup usually results in some varied tactics, as there are many paths to each flag from different directions. A loadout of 3 quad bikes and an APC make for an interesting first assault where a team could theoretically spread out and head for each of the flags, with a possible outcap on the first push. Flags C and B have the height advantage on A, so choosing which points you cap is vital.

GRRR played the guys from MyBroadBand (MBB) and took that game with a 2-0 margin which currently leaves GRRR in 3rd position with DAC. The alcohol driven, nicotine crazed gunslingers (ATF) came out blazing to defeat DAC 2-0 with only 7 players on the field, which keeps ATF in the lead in this division thus far with 3 games and 3 wins and DAC, tied with GRRR with 2 wins and a loss each. The Super Serials (SSG) also took a win in their game against the Scounts (SLS) which leaves them in 2nd position behind ATF, vying for the top stop when they face off against ATF later in the week.

Scourge from ATF gave his view on their game “The map choice for this week was Laguna Alta. A Map that a lot of our players don’t like at all. Being one down on DAC we knew it would be a tough game. But we were motivated and changed our strat to work with only 7 guys, and it paid off. We won the first map by ‘n very small margin, DAC Kept putting the pressure on us. The 2nd round was no different, DAC was all over the flags and we struggled to keep up to them. We had a break when we stole their APC, which gave us a good chance to cap two flags. It was a very intense game WP to DAC, From the ATF team we wish you the best of luck for the rest of the league.”

TheVovo from SSG says for their game against SLS that well organised squad work, and a good understanding of the map secured SSG the win on the night. “The practise sessions that we had, left us in good stead to deal with most teams that we could come up against on that map. Thanks to all involved” Says Vovo. Read More…

Slodaz from GRRR has shared with us his indepth perspective of the game, blow by blow with a bit of humour, thanks Slo..

They say that history is written by the victors and when you combine that with esteemed war veterans like leelo, NiteShade, s3xy_j0nny and Voetsek-Mikey you are in for a tale of carnage, guts and glory. The map is Laguna Alta and we played our opening move to perfection. Squad Alpha moved onto flag A with the APC, spewing high caliber rounds and a guided missile at MyBB armour. A few seconds later the APC went down and we started mopping up the enemy and claiming the flag. Leelo started dropping his anti-tank mines of awesomeness,  which proved a vital strategy in this war. In fact, J0nny and Lee were so good at taking the APC down, it ended up spending most of its time cringing in the MyBB base. This resulted in the perfect opportunity to steal it and enhance our forces firepower at the two flags.

MyBB put up a valiant fight, with a strong co-ordinated rocket attack on the APC’s. To be fair, their stolen APC only remained in our hands for a few minutes before fiery mortars of doomage sent it and its driver to the scrap yard. Dead [grrr] squad members were frantically shouting “they are reviving, move in guys…” until the squad leaders called for discipline and we settled into our rhythm.

Lets switch to the second squad led by Mikey, who was busy laying down covering fire and getting their squad into position for a frontal assault on the B Flag. With men positioned on the hill and moving through the green containers, the medics had their hands full keeping their teemies from flat lining. Grenades and tubes filled the air with a symphony of death, pushing their sniper back to the far corner of the map. With bodies strewn across the train wreck, Mikey’s squad moved in to dominate the flag.

MyBB put up a great fight and threw everything they had at us – including a strange white fluffy sheep that wiped out our whole squad on contact – screen shots will be sent to the admin’s for forensic analysis. At the end of the two games an exhausted [grrr] team finished on top with 2 wins. All agreed that we had a fantastic game, which is all the motivation that we need going into our next match with the well oiled =DAC= team.”

NFX and BBH have moved this weeks game to the end of Week 4 due to the connection issues mentioned earlier.

And that pretty much sums it up until next weeks addition. Good luck to all teams!
