NFX, our old buddies from back in BC2 days have recently reformed. Since we have a relationship with the players and the clan, they invited us to jam a couple of maps in the new Battlefield 4 style. How could we say no?
I’m not sure exactly how NFX split up their team, but there were quite a few familiar faces around.
I decided to use our most stable line-up which was the Packet Loss team from Battlefield 3. Due to some scheduling issues, and some peculiar rugby decisions the game was postponed until the evening. We had to get a replacement as Razerfox was off on Team Fortress 2 duty at the same time. The fact that we had an existing line-up to call on, already was an advantage to us. A group of people that have played together many times, albeit in a new game, is still a group of people that know how to work with each other. Our line-up was:
Since this was a friendly affair, there weren’t any rules that we had to adhere to. Oh except maybe go and shoot things Fortunately we started on the simplest of the BF4 maps that are available to us, Operation Lockers. Operation Lockers is an entirely infantry based map. Unlike Operation Metro from BF3 there are several routes to the middle flag.
I quickly assigned some jobs to people just before we started. Sounds simple enough but the level of excitement in our TeamSpeak channel was very high. The guys were super amped to get into the swing of things. We didn’t even work out squad perks or anything like that. Most of us are still learning about weapons and attachments that work for us.
The first round on lockers was quite action packed. There was quite a bit of back and forth. People sneaking past capping back flags. It was quite frenetic at times. The second round saw us bringing the heat. We applied what we had learnt from the first round on Lockers, Round 2 was business time. We pushed hard into mid, met head-on with our foes and pushed them back. After a little while we pushed again, making sure we had all the holes covered this time. Round 2 went really well for us.
The round scores were:
SSG RU 217 – 0 US NFX
SSG US 345 – 0 RU NFX
Special mention goes to PeStil3nc3 who got left outside in the snow to defend the flanking lane. He did however entertain himself by placing mines when he had some time. Don’t ask me. It was an elaborate plan I’m sure 😛
Then it was on to Zavod 311. This is a much bigger map, with an array of vehicles at our disposal. Again, I had to quickly come up with a plan for the map. Those NFX guys use their transport helicopter well and ended up on the tallest building and lock the hatch on the ladder, so we cant climb up there. They deployed a spawn beacon up there, which meant that people would just respawn up there. While it wasnt a direct threat to the flag it did keep the waves of soldiers incoming.
“What the hell is hitting me?” Yes, there is also mobile artillery! Again like the first round on Lockers, we were playing and learning as we went. Round 2 was a lot more clean, and saw us taking the and holding the lead. There is a lot that needs to be covered on this map, which vehicles to use when, and where.
The round scores were:
SSG US 261 – 0 RU NFX
SSG RU 371 – 0 US NFX
Thought I’d just include a highlight from Zavod 311
We all had a good time, and I’m sure there will be another game in the not so distant future with our buddies from NFX.
See you on the battlefield
